when did being a liberal become a non-patriot?

I've been visiting a few websites that have 'conversations' going. Amazingly, the right wing extremists have decided that liberals and leftists are traitors and should be silenced. It's become amusing. When I agree with the posting of a rightie, no comment is made. However, should I ask a question about the belief or offer an alternative view from the left, I get snarky comments about me and my posts. I have asked several times if liberals are not welcome on the site and get quick responses indicating 'of course they are', but the tone taken by the righties (stingies) indicates otherwise. On one site, I tried a different group, only to find all the same 'Bush is God' folks posting there. What is up with that?

I am very afraid for our country. We are heading towards a dictatorship led by a group that hates anything that has to do with caring about others, freedom of speech, habeas corpus et alia. I am afraid one of the Republican candidates will actually win the presidency next year based on some trick, an October surprise, if you will. It will come as a surprise to some of those righties when they realize their own rights have been lost as well.

My personal favorite for President is Bill Richardson. He is so experienced (unlike the present occupant as Garrison Keillor calls him) in all levels of government and diplomacy. I can't understand why the press totally ignores him. If he had a chance in the debates to actually answer some questions, he would shine head and shoulders above the rest. Speaking of which, what is up with Tim Russert? He's not a moderator. He's an antagonist to some and a supporter of others. That is not his job, at least it should not be.

This is one scary time for people who believe in humanity as opposed to greed. The rampant racism, bigotry and hate of the right wing is unbelievable. And if you point it out, they turn on you. Sick and scary. It's a good thing no one reads this. I'd be inundated by hate email from those fascio-evangelists.

Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week

This is Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, created by right wingnut David Horowitz. You Tube has a great post on it with a discussion about the definition of Fascism and whether or not Islamo-Fascism is an oxymoron or not. I contend that it is. Some believe that all Islamists want to have the Sharia Law as the rule of government, ergo I-F exists. My contention is that only actual, organized governments like Bushco can be fascist. My intended response to one of those fanatic 'every Muslim is a bad Muslim' posters was too long for the website. Instead of cutting it to mean nothing, I tranferred it here.

From my understanding - Shia want the religious state and Sunni prefer secular. Iran is Shia, governed by the Ayatollah, not the 'president'. The majority of Iraqi's are Shia. Hussein was Sunni, and despite being despicable, wanted nothing to do with Al Qaida and it's religious war.
Georgie boy thought "they were all Muslims" when told about the Shia and Sunni sects. Somewhere in the past 700 years since the split, Sunnis seem to have gotten over religious governance. Additionally, Muslims, like Christians and Buddhists and other sects can be found in most countries.

The way Bushco uses Islamo-fascists to stir up fear is
1. a fascist activity by Bushco, and
2. not within the meaning of fascism as it should be defined.

Fascism is a process by a government with the hidden (or not so much hidden) intention of lead to a dictatorship. Islamists may want that eventually, but they are not the government of many countries. I am sure there is some term that could be used for the desire for Islam to be the world's religious rule of law. Lets see...
I've got it!

what's up with the right wing?

Weeks and months of filibustering and voting against cloture. Wow, when they wanted wonderful folks like Alberto Gonzales approved filibustering was close to being voted out of the Senate procedures. Now they wave it like the flag. Unfortunately, the Democratic leadership has been too polite to condemn this ongoing refusal to vote in any public forum. What purpose they think they are serving is beyond me. The Republican hypocrites go about their merry way with no one really getting that they are obstructing every action the Senate tries to make.

Now Bush wants $200 BILLION for another year of war. The brightest thing the House can do is to refuse to vote on any war appropriation that isn't specifically for bringing home all Americans in Iraq. The mercenaries included. Not one person should be left and the bases should be abandoned. The Embassy that hasn't been properly built should be leveled.

At some point, the American public will figure out that the Bushies have been undermining the Constitution and the Republic since they usurped the White House. All the lawsuits, discoveries of fraud and other wrong doing will come out. At that point, Impeachment will be the only option for anyone in Congress. Even the wackiest right wingers (Larry Craig?) will admit there is no way they can justify the fascist actions taken by this administration. All we can do is hope!

Why Bush & Cheney Impeachment is Unlikely

I think Nancy Pelosi has been held back by the Democratic National Party from starting impeachment proceedings against Bush and Cheney.

Why, you ask? Bear with me.

If both Bush and Cheney were found to be guilty after their impeachment, Speaker Pelosi would become the country's first female president.

Unelected.

And, with less than 2 years left in the office, she could be re-elected to 2 more full terms. So many Democrats have spent and raised so much money so early to try to be the party's next candidate. If Ms. Pelosi were suddenly president, she would be the presumptive candidate (assuming she did as well as president as she is doing as speaker). Wouldn't that just throw all the current posturing and posing into a morass of anger and hurt.

We all know Hill has been planning to be the first woman president since before Billy got elected. Imagine her thoughts if Ms. Pelosi beat her to it through the impeachment process! In the meantime, a new VP would have to be appointed, changing the heir candidate presumptive for the next 3 election cycles (assuming Ms. Pelosi won in 2008, and why wouldn't she? she has been better at diplomacy in the Middle East in one trip than Bush ever thought to be in 6 years).

It boggles the mind. Somehow, I can't imagine the Democratic Party looking forward to that. I am surmising that Speaker Pelosi has been handed the script. I certainly hope I am wrong, and only history will prove it one way or another, but it makes for interesting thoughts, does it not?

mr whine

Has anyone else noticed how whiny the president gets when people defy him? That man apparently does not understand the word no. Or respect it. What did his mother teach him? That he can have whatever he wants as long as he has a signing statement or veto power? Shame on you, Barbara.

And why is it that he used signing statements to reject anything he didn't like during the Republican Congress, but now threatens vetoes against dems? I assume because he knows the dems will come after him.

What an infantile character the 'man' has. His 'Bring it on!' attitude has run its course. He complains when a bi-partisan group led by Nancy Pelosi goes to Syria, but not when an entirely republican delegation does.

He whines about dems funding the war but giving him a tentative deadline. He wants to go out of office with no resolution to the quagmire he was warned about and ignored. He can't believe he (and God) could make a mistake, so he continues to talk about 'improvements' as Americans and Iraqis die daily. Progress since "Mission Accomplished" can be measured in (what's smaller than a millimeter?) nano-meters. In fact, given world opinion, America has lost ground everywhere but in the minds of the oval office and it's political hack appointees.

Let's face it: the man's a joke played on the country by neo-cons and his big brother. And the punch line keeps getting punchier. Please, someone relieve us of this administration before we end up in the dark ages ala y2k predictions.

Nancy, start impeachment proceedings now!

Time Flies

Time flies when you're having fun... I spent two months in New Zealand and discovered (no surprise really) that other countries think our government (read President & Company aka bushco) has lost it's collective mind. Not that Bush had a mind to lose, we all know Cheney is the shadow president and Georgie porgie is a puppet.

We are now waiting for the resignation of Alberto (Fredo) Gonzales and the subpoenas of Busies (aka Rove & other aides). I personally am waiting for the impeachment proceedings to begin. Both Cheney and Bush should be impeached for treason. I think the only reason Pelosi doesn't want to go that road is so she won't become the 1st woman president and mess up Hilary's goal. Time to stop playing party favorites and get the job done.

What better way to introduce a woman president than as a fill in with less than 18 months on the job to go? She could even (gasp) run twice more! And the war would be stopped (one would suppose) with a democratic woman in the White House. Wouldn't that be fun?

Now that would turn the world on its collective ear! Imagine the shock and awe for the religious right! They would pass out with a female in charge. And perhaps learn that patriarchism has not been a good thing for our society in recent millennia.

But that's another post - thanks for stopping by.

musings

I can't sleep tonight, so I am setting up this blog for future ramblings. Humorous or serious views of the state of the world as I see it, may eventually follow. For now, I'll just say there are some odd folks out there in the political landscape. And there are some great folks out there doing great things to make the world a better place. Consider where you fit.
